- This year’s Jains Incid Krishi Sinchan Award has been allotted to Farms and Farmers Institute of Bihar. The organization is engaged in upliftment of small landholders, located in deferent seven villages of Bihar. The award presentation ceremony held recently at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Special Secretary of department of water resources, Mohankumar, Secretary of the department Dr. S K Sarkar and senior officer of Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd., H L Sharma presented an award.

Farms and Farmers Institute has been formed by two youngsters of Bihar, who completed their education from IIT Kharagpur. Several trials were started at the area, which is known as hilly and rocky land. From view of providing irrigation facility, small ponds were developed in the area. They used drip irrigation systems also. They succeeded in improving cultivability of the land. They worked on marketing strategies, which resulted in getting substantial returns to the producers of crops. Considering these outstanding efforts, Farms and Farmers Institute nominated for an award.

Several Agricultural Universities, State Governments, Private Institutes and individual farmers contested for an award. Considering strategy of saving water and using the saved water for another crop, JISL nominated Farms and Farmers Institute for the award. This award is delivered once in every alternate year. The Indian National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (INCID) takes initiative in awarding institutions or individuals, working in the novel concepts of irrigation. The award containing cash prize of Rs. 51 thousand and memento is commenced from 2001- 2002. Senior officers of Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. Dr. Madhusudhan Chaudhari and P Subramaniam were also present as special guests of the function.
