JISL was founded by Padma Shri Dr. Bhavarlal H. Jain (12 December 1937 – 25 February 2016), a staunch Gandhian and a generous philanthropist. His legacy continues through his associates at JISL and his family. His sons—Ashok, Anil, Ajit, and Atul—are taking Jain Irrigation to new heights. Founded in 1986 with a shoestring budget, the brothers have enabled JISL’s successful global expansion to 126 countries. JISL has become the only Indian agricultural corporation with its origins in rural India to offer a richly integrated basket of products and services that benefit the entire value chain of stakeholders. After nearly 40 years of constant innovation by the family and their associates, it has transformed farming practices worldwide.
The Jain family has consistently vowed to serve farmers, a commitment reflected in every venture undertaken by the three generations involved in this family business. A clear goal has defined all their efforts: to make the world a better place for farmers, our planet, and the future of food. In India, where rural populations have been neglected for centuries, the Jain family has created transformational solutions to deliver prosperity, helping to lift rural youth, farmers, and entire villages out of cycles of debt and poverty.
The Barclays-Hurun award ceremony celebrated families who have made significant contributions to the Indian and global economy. All the families were honoured for their success in maintaining business continuity across generations and for their resilience, adaptability, and a long-term vision while staying true to their core values and traditions.
